chuck loses both legs from the knee down. he also loses his right arm at the shoulder and a significant amount of his skin. pentecost saves his life, but detonating the payload does it's damage. the escape pod is super heated, as is his plating. unconscious after the first few seconds (a concussion, the moment the explosion smashes his helmet into the side of the pod) he doesn't feel his body- circuitry suit fusing to his limbs, cooking from the inside out.
he's lucky. it's the one thing the doctors repeat over and over. he's lucky to have survived. he's lucky the damage isn't worse. he's lucky to have escaped chemical complications. that his head is still in one piece. that he hasn't suffered brain damage and that he wasn't awake, trapped inside the pod.
